(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) Panama: A shipment of contraband cigarettes valued at more than $1.5 million was seized this Saturday on the Arraiján-La Chorrera highway, amid Operation Independence. The National Police and the Second Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime arrested the driver of the articulated truck, since he did not have in his possession the documents that justified the cargo. According to the preliminary investigation, the 53-foot-long truck was transporting more than 1,500 bundles of cigarettes of different brands, originating from the Colón Free Zone and destined for El Salvador. The detainee was placed under the orders of the Prosecutor's Office, while the illicit merchandise was transferred to the National Police headquarters in Ancón for the respective registration.
