Estonia Hails Türkiye as Key Strategic Ally in Security
(MENAFN) Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized on Saturday that Türkiye is “a very important and very strong strategic partner on security and policy levels.”
In an interview with a news agency, Tsahkna discussed bilateral relations, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the Israel-Palestine situation, highlighting that Estonia and Türkiye have long maintained excellent relations that continue to strengthen.
He characterized Türkiye as a vital ally in both political and security matters, noting that its favorable climate draws numerous Estonian families, particularly during the harsh winter months back home.
Tsahkna also emphasized the growing significance of economic collaboration alongside security cooperation, pointing out that Türkiye provides “security-level cooperation” to Estonia.
He mentioned that Turkish fighter aircraft are set to participate once again in the Baltic Air Policing mission next year.
Focusing on the expanding defense industry partnership, Tsahkna stated that Estonia and Türkiye are “cooperating more and more” in this domain and that Türkiye has become “one of the largest defense procurement partners” for Estonia.
He further underscored that, as NATO allies, both nations coordinate closely, observing that Türkiye “plays a very important role in stabilizing the situation in the region.”
Referring to his recent visit to Azerbaijan, Tsahkna noted that Türkiye is “strongly supporting” peace and stability efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as initiatives to boost investments in strategic trade routes.
He concluded by noting that this collaboration extends beyond bilateral relations, encompassing European frameworks and various regional cooperation platforms.
