Torkham Border Remains Open For Second Day As Nearly 8,000 Afghan Refugees Return
The Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan remained open for the second consecutive day to facilitate the return of Afghan refugees stranded due to prolonged border closure.
According to official sources, 7,935 Afghan nationals crossed back into Afghanistan on Friday. The border had remained closed for 20 days amid tensions between the two countries, leaving thousands of Afghans stranded along the frontier.
Women, children, and elderly people were among those returning home. Officials also allowed empty Hino trucks and small vehicles that had been stuck in Afghanistan to enter Pakistan during the process.

Sources added that the government is considering keeping the Torkham border open for another one to two days to ease congestion and ensure the safe repatriation of all Afghan families who have traveled from Punjab and other areas to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The refugees urged both governments to resolve border-related issues through dialogue, saying repeated closures create hardships for citizens on both sides and disrupt trade activities.
Meanwhile, hundreds of drivers and passengers awaiting clearance also appealed to authorities for immediate permission to cross into Afghanistan, saying they are facing severe hardship under the open sky in cold weather with dwindling food and water supplies.
