Most Americans Believe Country Is “Seriously Off on the Wrong Track”
(MENAFN) Approximately two-thirds of Americans feel the nation is “seriously off on the wrong track,” whereas slightly fewer than one-third think it is moving in the right direction, according to a recent survey.
Many citizens seem concerned about the state of the country, with just over half reporting that the economy has worsened under President Donald Trump.
This information comes from an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll conducted via Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel and published by ABC on Sunday.
The survey also shows widespread frustration with both political parties and the president, whom many believe are disconnected from the public. Anxiety over the ongoing government shutdown, now lasting more than a month, continues to grow.
The sentiment that the country is “pretty seriously off on the wrong track” is much stronger among Democrats (95%) and independents (77%) than among Republicans (29%).
Significant portions of Black (87%), Hispanic (71%), and Asian (71%) Americans share this perspective, compared with 61% of white Americans.
Majorities across urban, suburban, and rural areas, as well as among different income and education groups, also view the nation as heading in the wrong direction.
Although 67% of respondents now express concern about the nation’s direction, this is a decrease from 75% in November 2024, prior to the presidential election that returned Trump to office.
Nearly six in 10 Americans hold Trump responsible for current inflation levels, and over 60% disapprove of his management of tariffs, the economy, and the federal government in general. Large majorities also express dissatisfaction with his handling of various other issues.
