Karnataka Approves Rs 2,296 Crore To Upgrade Bengaluru's Infrastructure
The move follows growing criticism from residents and industry leaders over the poor state of the city's roads and public facilities.
Of the total amount, Rs 1,241 crore will be used to develop infrastructure in newly formed corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said the funds will primarily go toward road asphalting and related works to improve connectivity and road quality.
The remaining Rs 1,055 crore has been allocated under the Chief Minister's Infrastructure Development Programme announced in the state budget.
The funds will support various civic and constituency-specific projects, including drainage repairs, footpath upgrades, and the construction of community halls, markets, and public spaces.
Some of the highlighted projects include decorative tusker poles in Yelahanka, upgraded parks with gym equipment in Basavanagudi, new community centres in Vijayanagar, a higher primary school in Malleswaram, CCTV installation in Chamarajpet, and renovations at the historic KR Market.
In addition, the cabinet decided to seek Rs 1,545 crore from the central government to compensate for infrastructure losses caused by recent floods in North Karnataka - marking the first such request for infrastructure recovery.
The cabinet also approved Rs 69 crore for outsourcing the Cauvery IT Cell of the Stamps and Registration Department and sanctioned Rs 80 crore over five years for establishing Technology Business Incubators 2.0 under the Karnataka Start-up Policy 2022–27 across eight districts.
Furthermore, Rs 20.47 crore was allocated for consultancy services under the World Bank-supported“Karnataka Strengthening Coastal Resilience and Economy Project,” aimed at promoting ecological restoration and sustainable livelihoods in the state's coastal and Western Ghats regions.
