WHO Announces Abduction Of Doctors, Health Workers In El Fasher


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Tuesday that the organization has received reports about the abduction of four medical doctors, one nurse and one pharmacist following the latest attack on the Saudi Maternity Hospital in El Fasher in the western Darfur province in Sudan.
In a post on his account on (X) Ghebreyesus called for the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted health workers.
He stressed the need to protect medical personnel and patients and to ensure humanitarian access to deliver health aid reiterating that "health is not a target".
The WHO official had earlier announced that the Saudi Maternity Hospital the only partially functioning hospital in El Fasher was attacked again yesterday resulting in the death of one nurse and injuries to three other health workers. (end)
