Dr Madeline-Sophie Abbas is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Lancaster University, UK. She researches on critical race and whiteness studies, Islamophobia, counter-terrorism, security and surveillance, citizenship and migration. She is author of Terror and the Dynamism of Islamophobia in 21st Century Britain: The Concentrationary Gothic (Palgrave, 2021). She has published in the British Journal of Sociology, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Ethnic and Racial Studies and Ethnicities. The article draws on interviews with key NGOs working on statelessness, repatriation, and children's rights as part of a UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funded project.
