Takaichi Awaits to Meet South Korean President

(MENAFN) Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is anticipated to have her first in-person discussion with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday, according to a news agency, which cited a diplomatic source.

Later this week, Takaichi is scheduled to travel to South Korea to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, the report added.

During the meeting, she intends to communicate to Lee her goal of gradually fostering "future-oriented" bilateral relations and holding regular summits through mutual visits by both leaders, continuing the approach taken by her predecessor, Shigeru Ishiba.

On the day of her inauguration, Takaichi described South Korea as an "important neighbor" and voiced her enthusiasm for an early encounter with Lee.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the South Korean government regarding the prospective meeting.

Earlier, South Korea's presidential office indicated that discussions were ongoing to organize Lee's initial summit with Takaichi alongside the APEC summit, according to a media outlet.
