Japan, US Leaders Agree To Build Alliance's New Golden Age


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and US President Donald Trump held a summit on Tuesday in Tokyo, where the two leaders signed documents on alliance cooperation, the Prime Minister's Office announced.
The Office did not disclose further details.
At the outset of the meeting, Takaichi said, "Together with President Trump, I wish to build a new golden age of the Japan-US alliance to make our two countries stronger and more prosperous," according to public broadcaster NHK.
She also spoke of her admiration for Trump's diplomatic record, saying, "The recent agreement in the Middle East was also an unprecedented historic accomplishment."
The premier reaffirmed Japan's resolve to deepen cooperation with the US, noting that Tokyo and Washington "share the greatest alliance in the world."
She added that Japan will continue to work with the US to promote peace and prosperity and advance a free and open Indo-Pacific while safeguarding our national interests through strong diplomacy.
Trump expressed deep affection and respect for Japan, saying the relationship "will be stronger than ever," according to NHK.
He added that the two countries are allies at the strongest level." He also commended Japan's efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities, saying the US has received many new orders for equipment and that its fighters and missiles are "the best in the world."
Following the summit, the both leaders signed two documents: one titled "Implementation of the Japan-US Alliance for a New Golden Age," reaffirming their commitment to strengthen economic security and growth; and another establishing a bilateral framework to secure supplies of critical minerals and rare earths, the report said.
Both sides also agreed to convene a ministerial-level meeting within 180 days to promote investment and supply-chain cooperation. (end)
