GCC Strategy Committee Underscores Shared Drive For Safer, Smarter Meteorology
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
KUWAIT, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- Director General of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation Duaij Al-Otaibi said the 10th meeting of the GCC Strategic and Legislative Committee, hosted by Kuwait on Monday, reflects a unified vision for safer, more aware, and sustainable meteorology and climate work.
In a speech during the meeting, he noted a key milestone: the GCC's adoption of a unified meteorology law, backed by Gulf leaders, to protect public safety, the environment, and development.
The law is a strategic step to harmonize legal and regulatory frameworks, strengthen governance, and deepen Gulf cooperation in line with fast changing climate challenges, Al-Otaibi said.
The committee will now put the law into action, coordinate technically, use common operating standards, and upgrade monitoring and early warning systems to uphold the GCC's regional leadership, he mentioned.
He recalled earlier discussions on linking weather radar and seismic networks, and using third-generation satellites to track air quality and dust, along with broader data and expertise sharing.
Today's agenda covers upgrading observation infrastructure, developing climate databases, expanding training and capacity building, and supporting GCC representation in international forums - files that require hard work and a single vision to turn Gulf ambitions into tangible results.
Al-Otaibi commended constructive cooperation among GCC states and hoped the meeting would deliver recommendations that serve all members.
Meanwhile, Director of the Environment Department at the General Secretariat of the GCC Saleh Al-Hoshan added that the two-day meeting is another step toward more coordinated, effective meteorology and climate action, with recommendations aimed at strengthening Gulf cooperation. (end)
