Russian Air Defenses Intercept Over 30 Ukrainian Drones
(MENAFN) Russian air defense systems successfully thwarted a large-scale drone attack on Moscow, intercepting more than 30 Ukrainian drones, as reported by Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
In a series of posts made late Sunday into early Monday, Sobyanin confirmed that the raid involved at least 37 drones.
He also mentioned that emergency teams were active at locations where debris had fallen, although no information was provided regarding potential casualties or any damage to the affected areas.
According to the SHOT Telegram channel, explosions were reported in several suburban areas south and southeast of Moscow, including the Ramensky District, Podolsk, Klimovsk, Domodedovo, Kolomna, and Troitsk.
Despite the explosions, there were no reports of injuries or property damage from these areas, the outlet stated.
In response to the drone attack, Russian authorities temporarily restricted air traffic at both Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports, which are located about 40 kilometers south and southeast of Moscow, respectively.
This event follows a similar drone assault on Saturday, which involved a smaller number of seven drones targeting the Russian capital.
Ukraine has consistently carried out long-range drone strikes against Russia, aiming at critical infrastructure, energy facilities, and residential areas. Moscow has condemned these assaults, labeling them as “acts of terrorism.”
