Inspiration From Experience
At the age of 14, Dr. DeLuca injured his knee and required surgery two years later. After frequent visits to his orthopedic surgeon for treatments and therapies, he developed an interest in the field. His surgeon became his mentor, allowing him to shadow and learn from him on a practical level. Guided by a passion for restoring function and improving patients' quality of life, Dr. DeLuca pursued an education in orthopedic care.
Education and Career
Dr. DeLuca first completed a bachelor's degree in physics at Franklin & Marshall College in 1996. He subsequently earned a master's degree in biomedical sciences at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998. Four years later, he completed a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the same institution. Upon completing his residency at Pinnacle Health System in 2007, he entered the role of orthopedic surgeon at the Orthopedic Institute of Pennsylvania.
As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. DeLuca is responsible for performing joint replacements for hip, knee and shoulder surgeries. Additionally, he handles surgery of the neck, lumbar spine, arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs and endoscopic spine surgery. As a surgery professional, Dr. DeLuca is proud to deliver high-quality results, efforts that have attracted the interest of various industries and companies.
Involvement in Project Development
Outside of his work at the Orthopedic Institute of Pennsylvania, Dr. DeLuca is often asked to help with the development of new techniques, technologies or implants. Over the years, he has played a role in developing and advancing several products, and hopes to continue working on such projects. Already, he has contributed to the design of a total hip replacement that has benefited numerous patients.
A Leader and Mentor
As he contributes to his field through surgery and project development, Dr. DeLuca is also grateful to be seen as a leader and mentor. Dr. DeLuca leads by example, delivering the highest quality of work and demonstrating the best methods to others. He often sacrifices personal time for the sake of his career in order to help others achieve growth.
Awards and Accolades
For his achievements in health care, Dr. DeLuca has received many awards and accolades. Notably, he was recognized as a Patient Preferred Orthopedic Surgeon in 2021 and listed in Becker's Spine Review's listing of 50 spine surgeons to know that same year. Additionally, he received the Didactic Teaching Award from Pinnacle Health System in 2019 and 2020, among many others.
What's Next for Dr. DeLuca
Within the next five to 10 years, Dr. DeLuca hopes to advance minimally invasive techniques in hip, knee, shoulder and spine surgery. He aims to remain at the forefront of technology, incorporating robotics and artificial intelligence to benefit his patients. Dr. DeLuca will soon leave his current practice for Lee Health in Fort Myers, Florida, where he hopes to start a new chapter in health care.
