Internet users across Pakistan, including in Peshawar, faced widespread disruptions on Monday following a major global outage in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a suspected undersea cable fault, severely affecting multiple online platforms and browsing services.

According to reports, users from various parts of the country experienced slow connectivity and difficulty accessing websites on several internet service providers (ISPs). The issue was once again linked to a possible fault in the submarine cable system.

However, no official statement has yet been issued by the Ministry of IT, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), or any major internet company.

Federal Minister for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, clarified that the disruption was primarily caused by a global outage in Amazon Web Services (AWS), which also affected several major apps, including Snapchat.

Meanwhile, several users claimed their ISPs had informed them about a“cable fault.” Digital experts suggested that the issue might have originated in the PEACE cable, a high-capacity 600 Gbps system that connects China to Pakistan through the DHA Misri Shah gateway in Karachi.

According to the PTA, Pakistan's submarine cable networks are operated by PTCL and Transworld Associates. These include AAE-1, SMW-4, and IMEWE networks, with landing stations located at Hawksbay and Clifton in Karachi.
