(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
KUWAIT, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Tanmeia Charity Association signed a cooperation agreement Monday with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support healthcare services for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
The signing ceremony was attended by a representative from the Ministry of Social Affairs, along with various humanitarian stakeholders.
Chairman of Tanmeia Charity Nasser Al-Ajmi told KUNA that the agreement marks a continuation of a five-year humanitarian partnership to assist Rohingya refugees in the Cox's Bazar camps.
Al-Ajmi noted that the partnership began in 2019 as part of a comprehensive relief plan aimed at improving access to clean water, healthcare, education, and food aid.
The cooperation is renewed annually to address growing needs in camps sheltering over one million refugees.
He added that initial efforts focused on water and sanitation projects to curb disease spread, followed by initiatives to equip health and education centers. The association also contributed to COVID-19 prevention and food distribution.
Al-Ajmi affirmed that this year's efforts remain focused on healthcare, in coordination with UNHCR, commending the agency's management of the Cox's Bazar camps and its fair distribution of aid.
UNHCR Representative to Kuwait, Nisreen Rubaian, stated that the agreement aims to provide medical supplies, essential drugs, and vaccination campaigns for some 15,000 Rohingya refugees. She emphasized that the initiative builds on joint humanitarian efforts launched in 2020.
She highlighted that over the past five years, the partnership has benefitted nearly 500,000 Rohingya refugees, praising Kuwait's generosity and the association's commitment to expanding global humanitarian outreach.
Meanwhile, Abdulmohsen Al-Mekhayyal, Ministry of Social Affairs official, welcomed the initiative, stressing Kuwait's leading role in humanitarian work and the importance of collaboration with internationally recognized organizations to strengthen Kuwait's global humanitarian standing. (end)
