(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Oct. 15 (Petra) -- A total of 85 patents, including 3 local ones, were registered in Jordan from the beginning of the year through the end of September, according to data from the Directorate of Industrial Property Protection at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply.
The number of registered trademarks during the same period reached 3,419, while 4,998 trademarks were renewed.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Directorate reported that it had also renewed 462 patents, granted 13 licenses for trademark use, processed 839 changes to the name or address of industrial property owners, and recorded 1,413 ownership transfers.
In comparison, 2024 saw a total of 5,687 new trademark registrations and 6,245 renewals, alongside 111 registered patents, 8 of which were local.
Under the law, a patent is defined as any creative idea developed by an inventor in any field of technology, related to a product, a manufacturing method, or both, which offers a solution to a specific problem in that field.
Patent registration refers to all the procedures associated with filing a patent application, starting from guiding inventors through the application process, and ending with the issuance of the final patent certificate. These procedures involve both technical and formal evaluations to ensure the application meets all legal requirements, as well as actions that serve public interest, such as publication in the official gazette or public access to patent records.
A trademark, as defined by law, is any visible sign used or intended to be used by a person to distinguish their goods, products, or services from those of others.
