Amman, Oct. 15 (Petra) -- Improving and maintaining football infrastructure has become a central priority for Jordan's sports community, particularly following the national football team's historic achievements, including winning the AFC Asian Cup and qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Football officials, coaches, and fans agree that the rehabilitation of local stadiums, especially the improvement of playing surfaces, is essential to sustaining the momentum of Jordan's football success. Many pitches across the country suffer from uneven grass, poor drainage, and inadequate maintenance, prompting growing calls for comprehensive upgrades.
Sports experts told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that stadiums across Amman and the governorates require urgent restoration and consistent upkeep to match the rapid development of Jordanian football. Optimism has risen among fans and stakeholders following the involvement of Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, whose recent visits to sports facilities and instructions to prioritize stadium renovation signal renewed governmental commitment to the sector.
Coach Osama Qasem said that the issue of stadium conditions remains one of the most pressing challenges facing Jordanian football, emphasizing that most major pitches are not currently suitable for professional-level play.
Former national team striker and current coach Ahmad Hayel also urged authorities to focus on restoring and maintaining football fields, noting that poor pitch conditions undermine player performance in domestic competitions. He stressed that after qualifying for the World Cup, it is vital to ensure that playing surfaces meet international standards.
National coach Islam Jalal agreed, explaining that the subpar quality of local pitches negatively affects technical performance and the overall standard of play. He added that Jordan deserves modern, high-quality stadiums and a larger national arena capable of hosting major international matches and accommodating growing fan attendance.
Sports fans have praised the Prime Minister's field visits to stadiums and training centers, describing them as a positive step toward upgrading sports infrastructure and ensuring the sustainability of Jordan's football achievements in the years ahead.
