Walmart Teams Up with OpenAI
(MENAFN) The American retail powerhouse Walmart declared on Tuesday that it has joined forces with OpenAI to craft a shopping experience enhanced by artificial intelligence. This innovative service will enable customers to make purchases directly through ChatGPT.
“Whether planning meals, restocking household essentials, or finding something new, customers can simply chat and buy, and Walmart will handle the rest,” the company explained in its official announcement.
According to the statement, Walmart is already implementing this AI technology in multiple sectors, including refining its product listings, streamlining customer support operations, and fostering greater AI literacy among its workforce.
The integration of AI into the shopping journey is intended to make the experience more intuitive and predictive, helping anticipate shoppers’ needs even before they are aware of them.
“For many years now, eCommerce shopping experiences have consisted of a search bar and a long list of item responses. That is about to change. There is a native AI experience coming that is multi-media, personalized and contextual. We are running towards that more enjoyable and convenient future with Sparky and through partnerships including this important step with OpenAI,” said Walmart CEO Doug McMillon.
OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman added, “We’re excited to partner with Walmart to make everyday purchases a little simpler. It’s just one way AI will help people every day under our work together.”
