ASEAN Foreign Ministers Welcome 1St Phase Of Gaza Peace Plan Agreement


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (KUNA) -- Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) welcomed on Tuesday the agreement reached between Hamas and Israeli occupation on the first phase of the comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict announced in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
In a joint statement, ASEAN ministers commended President Donald Trump for his continued leadership and sustained efforts to end the war in Gaza, appreciating the important role and collective efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye, as well as other partners in facilitating the mediation and implementation of the comprehensive plan.
The statement highlights this development as a key step toward ending the conflict by stopping further suffering and displacement, securing the release of hostages and detainees, ensuring Israeli forces withdrawal, supporting Gaza's reconstruction, and advancing Palestinian self-determination and statehood.
The ministers called upon the concerned parties to fully adhere to the agreed terms and urged for its swift and comprehensive implementation.
They emphasized the need for a permanent ceasefire, immediate, unimpeded, safe and sustained delivery of humanitarian assistance to all those in need, including through the continuation and strengthening of UNRWA's role and mandate.
The ASEAN Foreign ministers also called for an immediate commencement of reconstruction efforts in Gaza in order to help rebuild the lives and protect the dignity of the Palestinian people.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), founded in 1967, groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, and aims to enhance political, economic and cultural cooperation among its members. (end)
