Panama's José Caballero Is Welcomed With Drumbeats After A Dream Year With The Yankees -
Amid the excitement, the infielder shared with the media about his great moment, his immediate future and the possibility of representing Panama in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. “They know that representing the country is important to me. It's always been part of my career and my dreams, so there are no restrictions. They understand it's something I want,” he said, referring to the Yankees' permission to participate with Panama in the tournament. When asked about winter baseball, the Santo Domingo native didn't rule out playing in the Dominican Republic, although he clarified that he hasn't made a decision yet.“I'll see later if I'm going to play in the Dominican Republic or not. I'm still thinking about what I'm going to do,” he commented.
Regarding his achievement as the league's stolen base leader, Caballero praised the effort and perseverance that led him to dominate that category for the second year.“Thank God for the opportunity to leave my name on the map. It may not be the most important statistic, but for me it is. I put a lot of effort into it and I'm happy to have achieved it again,” he said. He also discussed his relationship with Anthony Volpe, his Yankees infield partner, and dispelled any rumors of internal competition. “We're teammates. I always want the best for him because I know what it feels like to go through a slump.
There's a lot of pressure in New York, but there's no rivalry. I knew the role I was going to have from the moment I arrived, and I'm thankful to God that I've played more than I expected,” he explained. Caballero described his experience with the Yankees as a dream come true. “Since I was a kid, I've always dreamed of playing for a team like the Yankees. This year, my dream came true, and I'm happy with myself for having achieved it. It's a huge deal for me and my family.” Before saying goodbye, he dedicated special words to Aaron Judge , the club's captain. “Judge is an incredible person; he always gives advice and makes you feel good around him.”
