Zelensky claims long-range attacks lowered Russia’s gasoline supplies

(MENAFN) President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine’s recent long-range attacks have reduced Russia’s gasoline supplies by approximately one-fifth.

“We need to check, but we believe they lost up to 20% of their gasoline supply. It was after our strikes,” Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists, remarks reported by local media.

He suggested that the shortfall in Russia’s fuel stocks is being offset through increased imports from Belarus and China. Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine has used domestically produced Neptune and Flamingo cruise missiles against Russia over the past week, though he did not specify the quantities deployed.

In recent weeks, Moscow and Kyiv have repeatedly accused each other of targeting energy infrastructure, with tensions rising as winter approaches and diplomatic efforts to end the war have stalled.

Earlier, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on social media that overnight attacks targeted a gas processing plant and an oil pumping station in Russia’s southern Volgograd region, causing explosions and fires at both sites. Volgograd Governor Andrey Bocharov confirmed the fires but provided no additional details.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted 19 Ukrainian drones overnight, nine of which were over the Volgograd region. In August, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia’s domestic fuel market is “fully supplied.”

Commenting on the battlefield situation, Zelenskyy added that Ukraine believes its counteroffensive near Dobropillia in eastern Donetsk disrupted Russia’s summer offensive.
