Russia Reaffirms Strategic Commitments to North Korea
(MENAFN) During a recent gathering in Pyongyang, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, confirmed that Russia will entirely fulfill its commitments to North Korea under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
This assurance came during Medvedev’s discussion with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
“Our relations are now based on a solid legal foundation, an alliance treaty. We assume that we will continue to base our ties on this foundation, steadfastly fulfilling the obligations arising from this treaty,” Medvedev stated on VK.
His comments emphasized the firm legal structure supporting the two nations' alliance.
The accord outlines a continued enhancement of bilateral ties and stipulates that prompt military and other forms of support must be provided if either nation encounters an armed assault.
Medvedev further highlighted that Moscow places “utmost importance” on Pyongyang’s stance in backing Russia’s “special military operation.”
He also paid tribute to historical military cooperation, noting, “The heroism of the Korean soldiers who helped liberate the Kursk region will forever remain in the memory of Russians.”
The discussions coincided with Medvedev heading a United Russia party delegation visiting Pyongyang to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
Earlier this year, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official trip to Pyongyang, underscoring a new phase of strategic cooperation between the two countries.
