Türkiye Hails Gaza Ceasefire Breakthrough
(MENAFN) Türkiye on Thursday expressed strong support for the newly announced ceasefire in Gaza, calling it a vital step toward ending what it described as “the genocide that has continued for the past two years,” according to a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The ministry emphasized the importance of fully implementing the agreement and underscored the need for immediate humanitarian relief. “With the ceasefire in place, it is imperative that humanitarian aid be delivered to Gaza—where a humanitarian catastrophe has been unfolding—and that efforts for the reconstruction of Gaza be launched without delay. Türkiye will continue to provide substantial humanitarian aid to Gaza in the period ahead,” the statement read.
Ankara further asserted that durable peace in the region hinges on resolving the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The ministry added it hopes “that the momentum achieved in the ceasefire negotiations will also contribute to the realization of a two-state solution in the coming period.”
Praising the mediators involved, the statement continued: “We commend the efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and the US in mediating the ceasefire negotiations. Türkiye reaffirms its commitment to actively contribute and extend its support throughout the implementation phases of the ceasefire agreement.”
The ceasefire agreement follows an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who confirmed that both Israel and Hamas have agreed to the initial phase of a U.S.-brokered deal.
Outlined in a 20-point proposal revealed on Sept. 29, the accord includes provisions for the release of Israeli hostages in return for Palestinian detainees, a cessation of hostilities, the disarmament of Hamas, and a comprehensive plan to rebuild Gaza.
Since the escalation in October 2023, Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of nearly 67,200 Palestinians, predominantly women and children. The ongoing offensive has devastated much of the Gaza Strip, triggering a humanitarian disaster marked by famine and widespread disease.
