Angela Rintoul is a Principal Research Fellow at the Centre for Mental Health and Community Wellbeing at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne and an adjunct at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Monash University.
Her research now focusses on the relationship between gambling and suicide. She has also: (a) explored the relationship between place, social and commercial circumstances, and gambling harm; (b) conducted policy-relevant reviews of interventions to prevent harm, and (c) translated evidence for policy makers and the public, spanning complex country and policy contexts. She has studied the harmful effect of gambling for over 15 years and has expertise in the commercial determinants of health and suicide prevention.
In 2019 Angela undertook a Churchill Fellowship on to learn lessons on ways to improve the public health aspects of gambling regulation in Australia. Angela is a founding member of the WHO technical meeting on Gambling, and was a Commissioner on the Lancet Public Health Commission on Gambling (2021-2024). Angela is an Associate Editor of the Critical Gambling Studies Journal.
