Israeli Strike Claims Two Lives in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Monday resulted in the deaths of two civilians and injured a third, a state-run news agency reported.

According to the news agency, Israeli forces launched two guided missiles targeting a vehicle in Nabatieh, killing Hassan Atwi and his wife, Zeinab Raslan. The agency identified the couple as civilians who had previously lost their two children during the conflict with Israel. The attack caused the vehicle to catch fire, with ambulances retrieving the bodies while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

In a separate incident, Israeli forces also struck locations in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. No casualties were reported in this attack, the news agency stated.

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed on the social media platform X that the strikes targeted Hezbollah positions in the Bekaa region, specifically mentioning Radwan Force camps used for training fighters.

Since November 27, 2024, a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. and France has mostly held between Israel and Hezbollah, halting months of cross-border violence linked to the Gaza conflict. Nevertheless, Israel has continued periodic airstrikes in Lebanon, maintaining they aim to neutralize Hezbollah threats.
