EU High Representative: World Currently Witnessing Escalation In Conflicts, Human Suffering

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- The world is currently witnessing an escalation in conflicts and human suffering, said High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.
During the 29th GCC-EU meeting, held in Kuwait, Kallas emphasized the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and to promote international solidarity to confront current challenges that threaten global security and stability.
The year 2025 brought further turmoil after regional and global conflict reached its peak last year, she added.
Kallas affirmed that the European Union expressed its solidarity with the State of Qatar and its people, stressing that respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is a fundamental principle of the international order.
The EU official welcomed US President Donald Trump's efforts to end the "Russian aggression," appreciating the role played by the GCC states in facilitating prisoner exchanges and the return of deported Ukrainian children.
She called on the EU's Gulf partners to use their diplomatic channels with Russia to urge it to cease fighting and engage seriously in peace talks.
On Palestine, Kallas expressed the EU's grave concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, two years after the attacks of October 7, 2023, stressing that ending the humanitarian suffering in the Strip is an absolute priority for the EU.
Kallas commended US President Donald Trump's efforts to advance a ceasefire, release the hostages, and open a political horizon for a two-state solution, welcoming Hamas' acceptance of the proposal and stressing the need for both parties to sit at the negotiating table to end the cycle of violence and suffering.
On the situation in Sudan, Kallas stated that the country is experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises, calling on all parties to allow humanitarian access, respect international law, and engage seriously in ceasefire negotiations.
She emphasized that the EU is working with its partners to coordinate efforts and support Sudan's sovereignty and unity.
She also noted encouraging developments in Syria, stressing the importance of continuing the transitional process, strengthening inclusive governance, and protecting all Syrians without discrimination.
Kallas stressed that the GCC-EU relations are witnessing a new phase of dynamism, saying that the two sides are working together in trade, energy, green transformation, security, and humanitarian action.
She also noted that practical mechanisms have been launched to enhance cooperation, including the investment dialogue, the Green Transformation Forum, and systems for exchanging radiation data and disaster preparedness. (end)
