Sudan Conflict Intensifies as Civilians Flee
(MENAFN) The Sudanese military is confronting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) across several fronts in North and West Kordofan, while tens of thousands of civilians are escaping the intensifying hostilities.
According to a Doha-based news channel on Sunday, fighting has erupted west of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, as well as in Babnousa, an important city in West Kordofan, along with multiple northern towns throughout the state.
Military officials informed the channel that RSF combatants employed drones and artillery to strike army positions in Babnousa.
Muawia Mohamed, who leads emergency operations at the Humanitarian Aid Commission in White Nile State, stated that the area has recently received over 16,000 newly displaced individuals fleeing from North Kordofan and certain regions of Darfur.
He further mentioned that White Nile State is now accommodating more than two million displaced persons, with figures increasing sharply as the conflicts expand.
Sheldon Yett, the representative of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Sudan, said there are insufficient resources to meet the needs of those fleeing from El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, which was taken by the RSF last month.
Yett also pointed out that "many children have witnessed atrocities committed against their families in El-Fasher and surrounding areas."
