Panama Smuggling Crackdown: Medicines Liquor And Cigarettes Seized -

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) An inspection conducted by the National Customs Authority (ANA) , with support from the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN), led to the discovery of suspected contraband merchandise at a commercial establishment located in the city of Colón. During the operation, authorities found 1,700 oral antibiotics, 13 cartons of cigarettes, 23 units of medicinal ointments, 33 batteries, eight cases of beer, three cases of liquor, and two cases of energy drinks.

According to the report, the drugs did not have the appropriate marketing permits, which constitutes a violation given that they are controlled products that require a prescription. In addition, the ointments and batteries were seized for alleged trademark fraud, as they are suspected to be imitations of registered trademarks. The owner of the establishment was summoned by customs authorities to provide a statement regarding the origin of the items found.
