Kuwait Cabinet Praises Speech Of Amir Rep. At UNGA


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Cabinet on Tuesday commended the speech delivered by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's Representative, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York last Wednesday.
In the speech, His Highness the Crown Prince recalled the success of the UN in general and the Security Council in particular in liberating Kuwait from the brutal Iraqi invasion occurred 35 years ago.
He referred to the humanitarian issue of Kuwait - the fate of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons who lost their lives for the sake of homeland, along recovering Kuwaiti property, including the national archives.
His Highness the Crown Prince also pointed to Kuwait's commitment to the agreement of maritime navigation at Khor Abdullah and the security mutual protocol singed with Iraq since 2009.
His Highness Sheikh Sabah renewed Kuwait's obligation to correcting negotiations on demarking maritime borders with Iraq beyond the 162 mark, in accordance with international law and he United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), adopted in 1982.
His Highness the Crown Prince further affirmed Kuwait's keenness, during its presidency of the 45th session of GCC Supreme Council, to continue joint Gulf action and enhance strategic partnership with regional and international organizations.
His highness deplored in the strongest terms the brutal Israeli occupation attack on the sisterly State of Qatar, stressing the GCC see this assault as a flagrant violation of all international laws and a mediator's sovereignty working sincerely for peace, renewing Kuwait's full solidarity with brothers in Qatar against any aggression or threat.
Additionally, the Cabinet extolled the speech delivered by His Highness the Amir's Representative at the UN H.Q last Tuesday, on behalf of GCC members, during the emergency session on the condition in the Middle East including Palestine.
His Highness the Amir's Representative went to say that fair and permanent justice in "our" region could only be achieved through the two-state solution based on the international legitimacy resolutions topped with the Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
This is the only way to end the Israeli occupation, ensure legitimate Palestinian people's rights and establish an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, His Highness the Crown Prince stressed in the speech.
"We warn against undermining this solution through the policies of settlement, displacement, and imposing the status quo," His Highness affirmed.
His Highness the Crown Prince urged the international community, mainly the Security Council, to bear its full responsibility to prevent the repetition of these violations, and ensure the perpetrators would not go unpunished and the access of Palestinian people's inalienable rights to self-determination.
The Amir's Representative welcomed the countries' recognition of Palestinian state on September 22 during the high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of Palestine's issue and the implementation of the two-state solution.
He termed the step as "blessed and courageous" that go in harmony with international law and justice.
In addition, His Highness the Crown Prince said that the GCC reiterated its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, and that these crimes are not only against Palestinians, as they pose a threat to regional and international security as a whole.
He asked the Security Council to translate its words into practical steps to immediately stop the Israeli aggression and ensure humanitarian aid access, protect civilians and end unfair and illegitimate occupation for the sake of safety and security.
Furthermore, the Cabinet was informed about the official visit by His Highness the Crown Prince to the UK and his meeting with Wales' Prince Williams at Windsor Palace, where they reviewed distinguished bilateral relations, and means of boosting them for the two countries and their nations' benefits.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet was briefed on the minute of meeting of the ministerial committee for legal affairs regarding facilitating measures for those whose Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn. The Cabinet allowed to this category to continue trading shares, sukuks and securities at Boursa Kuwait of individuals and companies. The Cabinet also decided to maintain some rights of this group at some agencies and bodies of the State. (more)
