Amy Werbel is the author of numerous essays for academic and public audiences and three books, including: Lust on Trial: Censorship and the Rise of American Obscenity in the Age of Anthony Comstock (Columbia University Press, 2018), and Thomas Eakins: Art, Medicine, and Sexuality in 19th Century Philadelphia (Yale University Press, 2007). Professor Werbel's third book, Lessons from China: America in the Hearts and Minds of the World's Most Important Rising Generation (self-published, 2013) is based on her year teaching American Studies as a Fulbright Scholar in Guangzhou, China. She also served as a Fulbright Scholar to the United Kingdom, 2019-2020, and as a Fellow at the University of California National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement, 2021-2022. Professor Werbel is a State University of New York Civic Education and Engagement and Civil Discourse Fellow for 2024-2026.
