Indian cricket board (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed their players had refused to accept the winner's trophy from ACC President Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

He added that in an upcoming ICC conference set to take place in Dubai, the BCCI would "launch a very serious and very strong protest against the act of the ACC chairperson".

Following the Asia Cup, India leads Pakistan 12–3 in T20 International (T20I) matches, with one match decided by a bowl-out in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup.
