Tropical Storm Bualoi Batters Philippines
(MENAFN) At least 26 individuals lost their lives, 14 remain unaccounted for, and 33 others sustained injuries as Tropical Storm Bualoi wreaked havoc across the Philippines, according to a news outlet on Sunday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that persistent heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides caused by multiple tropical cyclones—locally referred to as “Opong,” “Nando,” and “Mirasol”—have impacted a total of 738,714 households, which equates to roughly 2,797,706 people.
Authorities noted that around 46,611 families, or 163,317 individuals, are currently seeking refuge in 2,680 designated evacuation shelters.
Meanwhile, another 31,448 families, or 118,957 people, are receiving emergency support while remaining outside these temporary accommodations.
Regional data show that the Cagayan Valley reported eight casualties, while the Bicol Region confirmed nine deaths.
The Cordillera Administrative Region experienced four fatalities, with Central Luzon and Central Visayas each documenting two, and Eastern Visayas reporting one.
In addition to the human toll, the storm's violent downpours and fierce winds caused destruction to 8,916 homes.
The government responded by distributing financial assistance to 149,675 affected families through various national and local agencies.
On Friday, Bualoi brought intense rainfall and gale-force winds to parts of central Philippines and southern Luzon, increasing the danger for communities still submerged in floodwaters, particularly in Bulacan.
This latest storm arrived on the heels of Super Typhoon Ragasa, which recently devastated areas in both Taiwan and the Philippines, resulting in over 20 fatalities.
