US VP: Complicated Negotiations On Gaza Peace Deal Underway, Cautiously Optimistic

WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- US Vice President J.D. Vance said late Sunday that "very complicated" negotiations are underway with Arab leaders concerning a Gaza Strip peace deal, indicating that he was "cautiously optimistic" about it.
Speaking to Fox News, Vance said that discussions were carried out between Arab leaders, the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, after President Donald Trump met with Arab and Muslim states' leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly last week.
He indicated that President Trump's optimism was "justified", adding that he feels more optimistic compared with previous attempts; however, everything could be derailed at any moment.
Trump wants Gaza to be run by its people so as with the West Bank, but "terrorist" cells must be dismantled around the Israeli occupation, he added.
Vance said that this was not an easy job and things might take a drastic turn, adding that President Trump might be near the finish line when it came to achieving sustainable peace in the region.
He hoped that the deal would allow the entry of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and reach the innocent people affected by the conflict.
President Trump announced earlier that he hoped for the approval of his 21-point plan for peace, which he said would end the war in the Gaza Strip.
He said that he would introduce the plan during his meeting with during his meeting with Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House later Monday.
Trump revealed on Truth Social that he had received a good reply from the Israeli occupation and Arab leaders concerning the peace plan for the Gaza Strip, hoping that an agreement would be reached soon on the matter. (end)
