Zelensky Reaffirms Ukraine’s Stance on Territories
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has firmly reiterated that Ukraine will never acknowledge the integration of its previously held regions into the Russian Federation.
Speaking in an interview with a news outlet that aired on Friday, Zelensky emphasized that reclaiming these territories remains a priority, whether through military operations or diplomatic efforts.
The interview took place shortly before Zelensky left the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the discussion, he reaffirmed Ukraine’s unchanging stance that it would not accept the permanent loss of land now under Russian control.
“We will never recognize these territories that are temporarily occupied by Russia. We cannot do this,” he declared.
While Ukraine continues to pursue military strategies, Zelensky also expressed openness to diplomacy as an alternative path. He described this approach as a reasonable “compromise,” particularly if military options are insufficient to regain control.
“If we don’t have power to bring back these territories, so we are ready to speak about it. We are ready to get it back sometime in the future by diplomatic way, not with weapon. And I think this is a good compromise for everybody, is that we have to decide such things now in dialogue and less losses,” he explained.
Ukraine continues to assert its claim over several regions currently under Russian control, including the Donetsk (DPR) and Lugansk People’s Republics (LPR), as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye areas, and the Crimean peninsula.
However, the Kremlin has consistently maintained that these territories are non-negotiable and views them as permanent parts of Russia.
