EAEU Aims to Strengthen Multipolar World
(MENAFN) The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is contributing to the formation of a multipolar world and challenging Western hegemonic practices, Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Atabak declared.
He praised the growing commerce between Tehran and the EAEU member nations since a free-trade pact was signed in May.
Established in 2014, the economic bloc includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Addressing a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday, Atabak remarked that the “world no longer tolerates the West’s unilateral course.”
“The time has come for the strengthening of various regional international organizations,” such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Iranian minister added, underscoring the significance of these entities in countering Western dominance.
Atabak expressed confidence about deepening collaboration between Tehran and the EAEU, describing the progress made over recent months as encouraging.
Echoing this sentiment, the bloc’s trade minister, Andrey Slepnev, stated that he anticipated “in the medium term, our trade will be double the volume recorded in 2024,” potentially achieving the initial target of $12 billion in turnover.
He highlighted that the primary focus of the three-year EAEU-Iran roadmap is on aligning infrastructure initiatives to enhance bilateral trade and potentially gain access to the Indian Ocean through Iranian ports.
