Türkiye Expands Renewable Energy Share

(MENAFN) Türkiye has boosted the proportion of renewable energy in its overall installed power capacity to more than 60% this year, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday.

“While increasing the share of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency, we are expanding low carbon technologies in industry. As of this year, we have raised the share of renewable energy within the total installed capacity up to more than 60%,” Erdogan stated during the UN Climate Summit held in New York.

The head of state underscored Türkiye’s efforts to upgrade infrastructure, pointing to electric vehicle manufacturing and railway development as central projects.

“In line with our net zero emissions target for 2053, we will continue to transform key sectors,” he remarked.

Erdogan also outlined ongoing national programs, which include setting up an emissions trading framework, advancing a green finance model, and building a domestic green taxonomy system.

He noted that Türkiye’s climate agenda rests on seven main pillars: energy, industry, construction, transportation, waste management, agriculture, and forestry.

“Through the policies to be implemented in the economy, we aim to achieve an emission reduction of 466 million tons by 2035 and to lower our emissions down to 643 million tons,” Erdogan declared.

Finally, he expressed optimism that Türkiye could host the COP31 conference in 2026.
