Typhoon Ragasa Leaves 14 Dead, 124 Missing In Taiwan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Rains and flooding brought by Typhoon Ragasa have caused at least 14 deaths, with 124 others reported missing, Taiwan News reported Wednesday, citing the Central Emergency Operation Center.
As of Wednesday morning, the typhoon had also left 34 people injured nationwide. All confirmed fatalities occurred in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, in eastern Taiwan, according to the report.
Flooding was reported in 52 locations, with one area still inundated. Authorities recorded 463 reports of damage, including fallen trees, damaged roads, tunnels, bridges, landslides, infrastructure, and utility systems.
Rescue teams are racing to locate those missing, with hopes of concluding the search by late Thursday. National Fire Agency Director-General Hsiao Huan-chang said that all missing persons have registered addresses, and units from the military, fire departments, and local agencies are going door to door in affected neighborhoods.
