KUWAIT, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait University's Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Center, in cooperation with Kuwaiti Women's Hopes Society (KWHS), on Wednesday held a forum titled "Women Between Rights and Belonging: Legal, Social, Sharia and Educational Fields," gathering academics and experts to discuss issues facing Kuwaiti women.
Speaking to KUNA, KWHS Chairwoman Wedad Al-Mashaal said that the forum aims to give practical proposals by involving specialists from legal, social, religious and educational fields.
She noted recent gains for women although said more joint work is needed for lasting solutions.
KWHS follows up women's civil, social and legal needs - whether married, widowed, divorced or single - to support family and community stability, she added.
Al-Mashaal underlined partnership with state institutions, civil society and academia to ensure social justice and to strengthen women's role in development.
Meanwhile, Acting Director of Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Center Dr. Yaqoub Al-Kandari said in a statement to KUNA that the event builds on ongoing cooperation with civil society and feature two sessions: one on constitutional and legal issues and another on social, psychological, and educational themes.
Women's issues are a core focus of the center's research, he pointed out.
The forum will conclude with recommendations to the competent authorities to support relevant policies and bolster women's standing in society.
KWHS, a developmental Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established in 2023, works to empower Kuwaiti women, raise awareness of their rights, follow up family and social issues, and advance related laws through cultural and social programs. (end)
