QRCS Distributes Aid To Afghanistan Quake Victims


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) As part of its humanitarian intervention to alleviate the suffering of earthquake-affected people in Afghanistan, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has inaugurated an emergency response project.
Implemented in partnership with the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) and in co-ordination with local authorities and target communities, food and non-food items (NFIs) were distributed to 500 affected families in Sawkai district, Kunar province.
The distribution ceremony was attended by head of the ARCS's Kunar chapter, ARCS staff and volunteers, representatives of local authorities and community, and a team from the QRCS's headquarters in Doha and representation office in Afghanistan.
With a target of more than 21,000 beneficiaries, the QR1mn project involves distribution of basic food parcels to 960 families, NFI kits to 800 families, and deployment of a mobile medical clinic to provide basic health services, mental health support, and free medications for over 9,000 beneficiaries.
Earlier this month, a relief team from the QRCS visited Kunar to conduct a field assessment and identify the initial needs of earthquake-affected families.
This intervention is closely co-ordinated with the ARCS, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and fellow National Societies operating in the country.
