Algeria Cancels Diplomatic Visa Agreement With France

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGERIA, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- Algeria announced on Monday termination of the agreement signed with France in 2013 regarding the mutual exemption from short-term visa requirements for holders of diplomatic or service passports.
On August 7, Algeria officially notified the French Embassy its decision to terminate this agreement after Paris suspended its implementation on its part, the Algerian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement.
"French diplomatic or service passport holders are now required to obtain a visa to enter Algeria. This procedure takes effect immediately after official notification", the statement declared.
" The agreement that facilitated the movement of officials holding these passports between the two countries is no longer valid, and the two parties are entering a new phase in consular relations in this regard", it added.
Last August, Algeria had announced the cancellation of visa exemptions for holders of French diplomatic and mission passports, stressing that "all holders of these passports will be subject to the same conditions imposed by the French authorities on their Algerian counterparts.
Algeria considered this decision a reciprocal response to the French authorities' suspension of visa exemptions for Algerian official and diplomatic passports.(end)
