Amman, Sept. 22 (Petra) – eSports has made significant strides in Jordan's sports scene, achieving milestones that raised the country's profile internationally despite being a relatively new field.
The Jordan eSports Federation, led by Prince Omar bin Faisal, established competitive national teams that have proven their ability to compete globally. Most recently, the national eFootball Console team qualified for the FIFAe World Cup finals, scheduled in Riyadh from December 10–13, after topping its group with 30 points, winning 10 of 12 matches, then defeating Uzbekistan in the semifinal and Lebanon in the final.
The Jordan Football Association had earlier announced the formation of a national eFootball team in cooperation with the Jordan eSports Federation. Preparations included workshops and coordination with FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation. The team has already participated in the inaugural AFC eAsian Cup in Doha alongside the 2023 Asian Cup, as well as the 5th West Asia Championship held in Amman in 2024.
Jordan's eSports scene continues to grow steadily, marking achievements at the Arab, Asian, and global levels.
The progress is a result of careful planning and strong support from Prince Omar, commented Jordan eSports Federation Director, Marwan Abu Ghosh, noting that the national teams now enjoy an excellent reputation abroad.
He said the federation aims to further expand the sport across Jordan, highlighting the role of media in spreading awareness and attracting new talent.
Local youth have shown increasing interest in eSports, encouraged by the succession of international achievements.
Ahmed Firas said he became more passionate about the sport after hearing of Jordan's recent successes, while Mohammad Fraihat described eSports as an area with great potential for international recognition, and expressed his aspiration to join the national teams.
Jordan is set to host the Arab eSports League on Thursday and Friday, in another milestone for the fast-growing sport.
