Japan Deploys Zero-Energy IoT for Türkiye's Rail Safety
(MENAFN) Japan and Türkiye have reached an agreement to work together on improving security measures and infrastructure oversight for Türkiye's rapid transit railway systems by deploying Japan's cutting-edge Zero Energy IoT (Internet of Things) Series surveillance technology.
According to statements made to media by Türkiye's Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu, this technology originates from the Japanese company OKI and currently operates within Japan's rapid rail transportation network. The system functions to identify structural shifts and environmental catastrophes including flooding and slope failures.
Minister Uraloglu highlighted that Türkiye's current railway infrastructure already incorporates equipment, software, and applications that meet global standards for railway security and upkeep. He noted that the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) seeks to introduce premier international methodologies to Türkiye through innovative approaches, exemplified by this partnership with OKI, which operates under a funding initiative from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
The Zero Energy IoT Series surveillance technology will be deployed along the Polatli-Konya and Konya-Karaman-Ulukisla rapid transit routes.
"The system will detect possible shifts in the infrastructure and natural disasters like floods and landslides caused by climate change," the minister said.
Implementation of the surveillance system is scheduled to commence during October or November timeframe.
Following installation, a two-year observation period will take place, wherein gathered information will be evaluated to assess the viability of permanent implementation. This partnership will additionally foster the creation of domestic technological capabilities through collaborative work between Turkish State Railways (TCDD) engineers and Japanese specialists.
