Sam Pitroda Breaks Silence After Controversy Over 'Had Been To Pakistan, Felt At Home Remark: 'I Want To Clarify...'

(MENAFN- Live Mint) Sam Pitroda finally broke the silence over the ongoing controversy surrounding his latest remark that he“felt at home” during his visit to Pakistan, and issued a 'clarification' on the same.

“When I said that I often felt 'at home' visiting neighboring countries, or that culturally and socially we share roots, I meant to emphasize shared history and people-to-people bonds - not to ignore pain, conflict, or the grave challenges we face from terror and geopolitical tensions,” Pitroda posted on X.

What was Sam Pitroda's remark?

In an interview, Rahul Gandhi's close aide had said:“I've been to Pakistan, and I must tell you, I felt at home. I've been to Bangladesh, I've been to Nepal, and I feel at home. I don't feel like I'm in a foreign country.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) quickly seized on Pitroda's statement to attack the Congress , mocking it as the“Islamabad National Congress," and alleged that the grand old party is Pakistan'“favourite.”

“Rahul Gandhi's blue-eyed boy & Congress Overseas chief Sam Pitroda says he 'felt at home' in Pakistan. No wonder UPA took no tough action against Pak even after 26/11. Pakistan's favourite, Congress's chosen!" said BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari.

BJP's latest criticism of the Congress as a 'Pakistan favourite' comes just days after Shahid Afridi's praise for Rahul Gandhi had stirred a similar row.

Shahid Afridi praises Rahul Gandhi, BJP criticises

Last week, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders targeted Rahul Gandhi after former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi lauded the Congress leade and described him as a“positive mindset" during a live show in Pakistan.

Afridi's praise drew sharp criticism from BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, who slammed Rahul Gandhi, claiming that“Cong Pak Yaarana is very old.”

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju also added to the criticism, stating that“Rahul Gandhi has been the darling of Pakistan.”
