Brazil's Lula, Qatari Emir Talk Mutual Cooperation

(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Thursday (18). They discussed ways to foster bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, the Qatari state news agency QNA reported.

According to QNA, Lula expressed solidarity following the attack on Qatar's capital, Doha, by Israel on September 9. During the call, Lula told the emir that any violation of Qatar's sovereignty could escalate regional crises. He also reiterated his support for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, as the only way to end the conflict. The emir thanked him for the expressions of solidarity to Qatar and its people.

The two heads of state had already spoken by phone earlier this year, exchanging views on the 50 years of diplomatic relations between their countries, when Lula invited Al-Thani to visit Brazil. The emir previously visited the country in November last year, during a brief stop at the G20 Summit held in Rio de Janeiro. Lula, in turn, visited Qatar in 2023.
