Turkish FM Says Doha Summit Highlights Israel's Expansionist Policies, Calls For Joint Action Against Them
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on regional countries and the international community to take joint action against the expansionist policies pursued by the Israeli entity in the region.
In a televised interview, Fidan addressed current developments in the Middle East.
Responding to a question about the Emergency Arab-Islamic summit recently held in Doha, Fidan said that he believes the Doha Summit was convened specifically to address the Israeli assault on another Arab country, not just Palestine.
He added that the meeting highlighted Israel's expansion in the region, documented it in an international forum, and called on regional countries and the international community to take a stand against it.
In his opinion, he stressed, this is its most important outcome, adding that he believes the issues that leaders gathered to discuss and agreed upon regarding this new development are far more significant than what is reflected in the text.
He underscored that this is essential for regional peace. But on the other hand, they, as regional countries and the international community, must discuss Israel's expansionist policy and take action against it. This is critically important.
When asked about the shift in discourse beyond Gaza and the Palestinian issue to broader Israeli threats in the region, Fidan stated that they will continue to stand against the ongoing massacres in Gaza and against attempts to annex the West Bank, and will work toward the establishment of a Palestinian state, which is an indispensable condition for achieving regional peace.
However, he added, they must also put on the table and take action against Israel turning its regional expansion into a fixed policy. This is of utmost importance.
The Turkish Foreign Minister explained that Israel draws its strength from the political and economic weakness and technological lag of neighboring countries, and that Israel views any regional vision based on prosperity, strength, and balanced development as a threat.
He noted that Western countries and the United States sometimes participate in this policy, stressing the need to change this equation in the region.
When Israel fails to create instability through indirect means, he continued, it intervenes militarily in the region.
Of course, he underlined, Israel has now clearly revealed its intentions. It has calculated all risks and turned regional expansion into a policy that goes beyond the Palestinian issue, warning that adopting expansionist policy as a security strategy is dangerous for everyone.
In response to a question about the possibility of leveraging Turkey's relations with the United States regarding Gaza, Fidan said that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan dedicates a significant portion of his time to international diplomacy to stop the massacres in Gaza.
Regarding the situation in Syria, the Turkish Foreign Minister stressed that the greatest threat to Syria's stability currently is a potential Israeli military operation. Israel has already revealed its intentions in this regard.
He warned that Israel's expansionist policies could open the door to unrest in Syria. (
