Mod Sheikh Abdullah Leads Kuwait Delegation To GCC Joint Defense Council Meeting

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah conveyed to his counterparts from the other Gulf Cooperation Council member countries the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
During the emergency meeting of the GCC Joint Defense Council in Doha on Thursday, the Kuwaiti minister expressed His Highness the Amir's hopes for the Council members to succeed in serving the interests of the GCC peoples and protect the security and stability of the region.
The emergency meeting took place under the directives of the GCC leaders during their extraordinary summit in Doha on Monday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense noted in a statement.
During the summit, the GCC leaders decided to convene a meeting by the GCC High Military Commission followed by a Joint Defense Council meeting to assess the security situation against the backdrop of the recent developments and outline the sources of threats.
They directed the joint military command to prepare the necessary practical steps towards activation of the GCC joint defense mechanisms, the statement noted.
During today's meeting, Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah expressed on behalf of Kuwait the sincere condolences to Qatari leaders, government and people for the victims of the brutal Israeli occupation attack on Doha, including martyr of duty Bader Saad Al-Dousary; may Allah, the Almighty, have mercy on his soul.
He wished the wounded a quick recovery, the statement added.
The GCC Joint Defense Council meeting, chaired by Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman, also gathered GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi. (end)
