Devastating Floods Claim at Least 101 Lives in Pakistan's Punjab
(MENAFN) At least 101 people have lost their lives due to catastrophic flooding in Pakistan's Punjab province, as confirmed by an official from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The floods, described as the most severe in Punjab's recorded history, have submerged more than 4,700 villages, impacting over 4.57 million individuals, according to Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed.
Javed reported that around 2.51 million people, along with more than 2 million livestock, have been relocated to safer areas amidst the disaster.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia added that rescue and relief efforts were ongoing, though the magnitude of the crisis had overwhelmed available resources.
Since the onset of the monsoon season on June 26, heavy rains and flash floods have resulted in 932 deaths, 1,060 injuries, and the destruction or severe damage of over 8,238 homes, according to the United Nations.
