Militant Attacks On Police Installations Repelled In Bannu, Gang Leader Killed In Karak Operation
Militants carried out two late-night attacks on police installations in Bannu, both of which were successfully repelled by security personnel. The assaults resulted in minor injuries to four policemen, while police claimed that several militants were killed or wounded during the clashes.
According to details, in the early hours between Tuesday and Wednesday, militants targeted the Miryan Police Station. Police responded with strong retaliation, forcing the attackers to flee. Shortly afterward, militants struck again, this time targeting the Mazanga police post in the limits of Haved police station.
The encounter continued for several hours, during which the militants failed in their attempt to seize control of the post and eventually retreated.
District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kalachi stated that nearly 200 militants had launched the assault, carrying explosives with the intention of capturing the post. However, police personnel put up stiff resistance and thwarted their plans. He added that traces of blood were found at the scene, indicating possible militant casualties.
The incidents followed a previous day's attack when militants stormed a government school in Miryan police station's jurisdiction, forcing children out of their classrooms during lessons.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Karak, police killed a wanted criminal during an encounter. DPO Shehbaz Elahi said police received information about armed suspects near the Emarki graveyard. When police arrived, the suspects opened fire, prompting retaliation that resulted in the death of Shahbaz alias Punjabi.
According to police, the deceased was the ringleader of a dacoit gang and wanted in several serious cases. A Kalashnikov rifle was recovered from his possession.
