UK Condemns Israeli Attack On Qatar In UNHCR Emergency Session

Geneva: The United Kingdom condemned the Israeli strike on September 9 that targeted residential compounds housing several Hamas leaders in Doha, and expressed full solidarity with the State of Qatar.

Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council's emergency session in Geneva on the Israeli attack, UK's Permanent Representative to the WTO and the United Nations in Geneva Kumar Iyer said that the UK strongly denounces the Israeli airstrikes on Doha, stands firmly in solidarity with Qatar, and extends condolences to the family of the Qatari security officer who was killed as well as sympathy to the families of the injured.

He said the attacks pose a serious threat to ongoing mediation efforts in Gaza and risk further escalation in the region.

Iyer also affirmed the United Kingdom's strong support for the efforts led by Qatar, the United States, and Egypt to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate the release of hostages, and bring an end to the war, stressing that all parties must continue working purposefully toward a negotiated agreement.

He added that the airstrikes on Qatar were unacceptable and would do nothing to advance peace in the Middle East, urging a political resolution as the only path to lasting peace and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
