Trump Says China Talks Went “VERY WELL”

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the progress of trade negotiations with China on Monday, revealing plans to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week, while suggesting a resolution may be near on the future of TikTok.

“The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly,” Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Without naming TikTok directly, Trump indicated that a deal had been made with a "certain company" favored by young Americans, implying its future in the U.S. had been secured. “The young people will be very happy,” he said, seemingly alluding to the popular video-sharing platform.

Earlier Monday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed during the fourth round of talks in Madrid that the two nations are “very close” to finalizing a TikTok agreement.

Trump also announced he would hold a call with Xi on Friday, reaffirming diplomatic ties with Beijing. “The relationship remains a very strong one!!!”

The trade discussions, scheduled to continue through Wednesday, are taking place under an extended truce that temporarily halts further tariffs on Chinese imports until November. A 10% mutual tariff remains active during the pause.

TikTok, owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, is under threat of a U.S.-wide ban over national security concerns related to possible data access by the Chinese government. In 2024, Congress passed bipartisan legislation requiring ByteDance to sell its U.S. operations by September 17—marking the third extension granted under Trump.

Negotiations are unfolding ahead of a potential face-to-face between Trump and Xi at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea next month.

The Trump administration has previously brokered trade deals with key allies including the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, and the European Union, while maintaining ongoing negotiations with other nations.
