Medvedev Warns of Triggering NATO, Russia War
(MENAFN) Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, cautioned on Monday that the establishment of a no-fly zone above Ukraine would inevitably result in open conflict between Moscow and NATO.
Posting on Telegram, Medvedev remarked he was “amused” by Eastern Sentry, a recently unveiled NATO initiative designed to defend allies along the eastern border following drone breaches into Poland last week.
“But seriously, the implementation of the provocative idea of … creating a ‘no-fly zone over Ukraine’ and the ability for NATO countries to shoot down our UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) will mean only one thing - a war between NATO and Russia,” Medvedev declared.
Addressing discussions on utilizing frozen Russian assets in Western states to support Ukraine’s defense, Medvedev threatened that Moscow would pursue EU countries “until the end of time” if they attempted to confiscate such holdings.
The former Russian president and prime minister emphasized that Moscow would act “in all possible ways” and “in all possible international and national courts.”
He added, “And in some cases, out of court,” without offering additional explanation.
On Friday, NATO revealed that its Allied Command Operations (ACO) would implement Operation Eastern Sentry along the alliance’s eastern front to “further strengthen our posture to shield and protect all Allies.”
“The multi-domain activity, which will commence in the coming days and continue for an undisclosed amount of time, is in response to ongoing airspace violations, including the numerous Russian drones that violated Poland’s airspace on September 10,” NATO said in its announcement.
